BÚHOS EN LA NIEVE

Tres búhos ulularon la noche del jueves en las orillas del Cares. Los oyó Tomás Alonso, quesero de Posada de Valdeón, en León, donde los más viejos cuentan que el canto del búho anuncia nevadas.

Y nevó tanto desde el pasado jueves que no se pudo salir hasta ayer del pueblo. El frío heló las carreteras, y heló el aire, y todos los sonidos quedaron también aislados: desde una pisada en la nieve, hasta la canción del petirrojo, hicieron eco al chocar con el cielo acristalado: volaban los sonidos de una ladera nevada a otra como pájaros encerrados, y allí donde quiera que fueran volando, llegaban amplificados, como los cuchicheos en las catedrales. The Great Grey Owl has been quite the star these days, I have had the pleasure of guiding a few guests to the location and spent a full day there each time. Last night I returned home around 9 pm, exhausted, but had a blast looking through the images from the day.

Special thanks to my friends Jerry Peltier, Randy Holland, Rodney Brown, and Kevin, who has been taking care of this owl since the 19th of December, trying to keep the wolves at bay! More on Kevin on my blog soon.

One of my favorites attached, and more coming! I have 2 folks coming from Florida tomorrow! (more on that later!) I do have another

August Tanzania is sold out, but we still have room for March!

The first Snowy owl day is full, so I will be asking James if I can work a second date, for Jan 22nd, 2012… ( lucky me,

working on my birthday!) Maybe Leigh will buy me lunch!!

Also, extra Muskoka dates, February 5th, 2012, and another if this one fills up too! Luna, the Telus Owl is another big Star!!

So, we are staying in the Windsor’s downtown Ho Jo’s, tomorrow though Friday, then up north to Muskoka for another overnight on Saturday …gonna be busy, Maria will have a great week!
